Having lived on a farm all my life I have always been in an environment where good quality food has been important. My mother, an excellent cook, always produced good wholesome meals and superb cakes and we have made sure we have acquired many of her recipes.
I spent many years in my former career supporting and promoting local and regional food and drink and Mere Brook House has given me the opportunity to carry on this work in a very practical way. As a result you will find that we offer locally produced food wherever possible.
To this end we have our own vegetable and fruit garden and Donald, having turned into a beekeeper a few years ago, also provides us with our very own Mere Brook Honey. He now has 40 hives and his own website! Take a look - www.merebrookbees.co.uk. In addition, we take apples to be pressed so have our own Mere Brook apple juice and this year some of the apples are being made into cider. Meanwhile, James, our chef, is very enterprising at using surplus vegetables and turning them into homemade chutneys. Delicious with our cheese board!!
Our breakfasts include:
A selection of cereals, porridge, fruit juice, yoghurts and fresh fruit. Our cooked breakfast includes dry cured Cheshire bacon, pork sausage, finest quality black pudding, mushrooms and tomatoes with either fried, scrambled or poached eggs, along with tea or fresh coffee, toast, Mere Brook honey, marmalade and jam.
We offer a two course lunch to our business and conference meeting delegates. Examples include; home baked ham, chicken pilaff, cheese and onion quiche, BBQ brisket, Cumberland sausage casserole or chicken casserole and all are served with potatoes and seasonal vegetables or homemade coleslaw, Waldorf salad and green salad. This is followed by one of our 14 homemade sweets such as apple crumble, rhubarb brulee or raspberry pavlova, with an option of our local and regional cheese board.
We host a variety of events – wedding breakfasts, wedding parties, birthday parties and Christmas do's! We offer everything from a formal dinner with canapés, main course, sweets, local and regional cheese board and tea and coffee, to a celebration buffet or BBQ.
As mentioned previously, we take a pride in sourcing many of our ingredients locally – Our suppliers include Whieldon's butchers in Higher Bebington, Parkinson’s shop, 'The Foxes', next door to Mere Brook House, Vineyard Farm Shop, The Cheese Shop in Chester, French Corner in Liverpool and Bates Dairy (supplied by our own farm) – And the honey, is in fact, Mere Brook Honey!
