Testimonials

Below are some of the nice comments we have received from our guests...

“Cooking is Excellent”

"They even offer locally-sourced cheese and biscuits and home-made cake for you to nibble on overnight. All the food is locally sourced (Lorna is also a farmer and she and her husband live in a farm nearby) and the cooking is excellent. They do weddings at the hotel quite regularly and it's not surprising as it is a beautiful place.”

We were there for our friend’s 60th Birthday meal. The food was cooked to perfection... Well done to the lovely cooks! Thanks to Jackie who welcomed us when we arrived and then cooked us a superb full English breakfast the next day. Highly recommend a stay at Mere Brook House

The proprietors, Lorna and Donald, have set a wonderful example to the team and as a result have developed a keen, well organised and above all caring group of people who have pride, dedication and commitment to the business and its customers."

“Beautiful”

"Myself and my husband stayed for 2 nights. Mere Brook is so beautiful in every sense of the word. The owner and staff went out of their way to make sure our stay went well. Greeted with tea and mouth watering home made cakes on arrival. The rooms are immaculately clean, in fact the whole place is! Beautiful furniture and interior design. The grounds are an absolute pleasure to walk around or just to sit and admire, which we both enjoyed. We rate Mere Brook House five star and cannot wait to go back and enjoy all that is to offer there again. Thank you Lorna (owner) and staff."

“Found This Hotel by Chance .... But What A Find”

"Stayed here in July 2015. This is just a fabulous location if you want a small informal hotel in a rural but conveniently sited location. It can only be 1.5 miles from the M53 with convenient easy access to Liverpool and the rest of the Wirral.

The accommodation was simply superb and quite unlike anywhere else I have stayed before. We were in the adjoining cottage which boasts a fabulous spacious lounge area for guests to enjoy, as well as their own room. A kitchen to the side of the lounge had a stocked fridge of drinks for guests to help themselves to - alcoholic and soft drinks - and cakes and flapjacks too! It was of course spotlessly clean and it was clear that no expense had been spared in the renovation of the buildings and fitting out as a hotel.

The staff were incredibly friendly and the owner even came to chat with us at breakfast time. There are lots of local tourism award plaques and trophies on show and it is easy to see why."

“Beautiful venue, amazing food, friendly staff”

"We had our wedding breakfast and reception at Mere Brook House. The staff were so friendly and helpful whilst not being intrusive. The venue and grounds were beautiful. The food was simply amazing and there was plenty of it. Locally sourced and great quality. All this helped make our day even more perfect! They even have their own honeybees and honey! The balcony room was just beautiful and the perfect bridal suite. All our guests commented how lovely the place, staff and food were. Can't wait to go back soon."

Nicki - May 2014

We hope this gives you a flavour of not only our facilities but also our personality. We want you to have a memorable experience and feel this is “home from home” and to indulge in our endless supply of homemade cakes!

National B&B Week 2019 - 18th-24th March 2019

Did you know that there are over 20,000 B&Bs in the UK, and that they generate over £2 billion annually to the UK economy? This is something that we think is worth celebrating, that’s why we are participating in National B&B Week 2019!

Mere Brook House has recently celebrated it's 10 year anniversary, and in this past year alone we have hosted countless weddings, celebrations and business meetings and welcomed hundreds of guests, including The Great British Bake Offs Prue Leith. We have also opened our doors to a BBC film crew, who used the house to film a 90 minute drama named "Care" which starred Sheridan Smith and Alison Steadman.

In October 2017 the Mayor of Wirral unveiled a blue plaque in recognition of the incredible Ann Davison, the first female to sail the Atlantic single handed. Ann lived at Mere Brook for four years and the house features in one of her books – in fact she refers to living at Mere Brook as some of her happiest times.

Over the past 10 years we have been honoured to win numerous awards including Bed & Breakfast of the Year and The Independent Business Award at the Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards 2017 and after taking a year out we are delighted to be shortlisted at The Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards 2019 in two categories, Hotel of the Year and Independent Tourism Business of the Year. In 2015 we were shortlisted for The National Tourism awards run by Visit England in the bed and breakfast category. Last year we were also awarded a Special Certificate of Excellence from Tripadvisor to celebrate 5 years of consistently excellent reviews!

So from the 18th to the 24th of March 2019 I hope you will join us in applauding all the great things that independent hoteliers contribute to the hospitality industry!

Wirral Borough of Culture 2019

BE PART OF WIRRAL'S BOROUGH OF CULTURE YEAR

logo

I hope you are all aware by now that Wirral is the Borough of Culture for the Liverpool City Region in 2019. This is a relatively new initiative where the spotlight will be put on a different borough of the region each year highlighting existing and new cultural events. St Helens was the first borough in 2018 to lead the way and this year is Wirral's turn.

I am delighted by the amazing programme of events, many of which are new, that are planned for 2019 some of which are listed below - and how amazing it is that Tour of Britain cycle race have also chosen Wirral to be involved in their internationally renowned race.

2019 gives us a real opportunity to showcase Wirral to visitors and put this wonderful place on the map.

There will be many ways that those businesses and organisations involved in offering services and facilities to visitors can get involved and a meeting will be arranged in early March when more of the practical and operational details can be shared which I urge you to attend.

Lorna Tyson,
Chair of Wirral Visitor Economy Network

The first event is 'Animated Square' in Hamilton Square on Saturday 23rd March, for more information see here.
