Bed & Breakfast of the year Award - Liverpool City Region

We are delighted to announce that for the fourth year running we have won the Bed and Breakfast of the year award for the Liverpool City Region.

Donald and I attended a glittering awards evening at St George's Hall in Liverpool where over 600 guests representing the cream of the region's tourism businesses and organisations awaited the results of the judges of the various categories.

But .... There is more. We had only just returned to our seats after official photographs had been taken when we heard our name announced as the winner of the Independent Tourism Business of the year ... Gobsmacked is an under statement but absolutely thrilled and delighted that the Mere Brook team has been recognised in this way.

Wirral Tourism Awards Win!

The People's Choice..? We would be delighted!

We are thrilled to have been shortlisted for “The Best Guest Accommodation” and “Independent Business” at the Liverpool City Region Awards. It's amazing to get recognition for all the hard work the whole Mere Brook team put in, week in and week out.

If you would like to support us in our quest to be the best, we would really appreciate it if you could vote for us for The People’s Choice Award by following the link:

https://www.liverpoollep.org/awards-landing-page/peoples-choice/?platform=hootsuite.

This is the one category voted for by you, the public, recognising and honouring the people and businesses achieving excellence in customer service within the Liverpool City Region.

The awards will be presented at a ceremony on 19th May at the prestigious St George’s Hall in Liverpool… So, we're off to buy ourselves a posh frock!!

Many thanks for taking the time to vote, the team at Mere Brook House really appreciate it.

Wish us luck!

Busy! Busy! Busy!

For the first two months of 2016, it’s been all go here at Mere Brook!

We have had a team of decorators in who have meticulously worked on repainting the conservatory, garden room and main dining room and have now moved on to the bedrooms and hallways.

We also had our Visit England inspection where we retained our 5* Gold status and were rated as suitable for elderly and less mobile guests under the National Accessible Scheme. You can see what that means in more detail by clicking here.

We have also entered the national Visit England awards, the Liverpool City Region awards and are in the process of entering five categories for the Wirral Tourism awards. The Wirral Tourism Awards accept nominations from our guests. So, if you feel like you've had an experience that is award worthy here at Mere Brook, feel free to nominate us for any of the following:

Outstanding Customer Care
Bed & Breakfast of the Year
Taste Wirral
Independent Business of the Year
Sustainable Tourism Award

Got to be in it to win it!

To top off our busy couple of months, we welcomed a very special guest this week... Take a look here! Spring is on it's way and we will be keeping an eye on our feathery friend to capture the moment she welcomes her babies into the world. We'll keep you posted!!

National B&B Week 2019 - 18th-24th March 2019

Did you know that there are over 20,000 B&Bs in the UK, and that they generate over £2 billion annually to the UK economy? This is something that we think is worth celebrating, that’s why we are participating in National B&B Week 2019!

Mere Brook House has recently celebrated it's 10 year anniversary, and in this past year alone we have hosted countless weddings, celebrations and business meetings and welcomed hundreds of guests, including The Great British Bake Offs Prue Leith. We have also opened our doors to a BBC film crew, who used the house to film a 90 minute drama named "Care" which starred Sheridan Smith and Alison Steadman.

In October 2017 the Mayor of Wirral unveiled a blue plaque in recognition of the incredible Ann Davison, the first female to sail the Atlantic single handed. Ann lived at Mere Brook for four years and the house features in one of her books – in fact she refers to living at Mere Brook as some of her happiest times.

Over the past 10 years we have been honoured to win numerous awards including Bed & Breakfast of the Year and The Independent Business Award at the Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards 2017 and after taking a year out we are delighted to be shortlisted at The Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards 2019 in two categories, Hotel of the Year and Independent Tourism Business of the Year. In 2015 we were shortlisted for The National Tourism awards run by Visit England in the bed and breakfast category. Last year we were also awarded a Special Certificate of Excellence from Tripadvisor to celebrate 5 years of consistently excellent reviews!

So from the 18th to the 24th of March 2019 I hope you will join us in applauding all the great things that independent hoteliers contribute to the hospitality industry!

Wirral Borough of Culture 2019

BE PART OF WIRRAL'S BOROUGH OF CULTURE YEAR

logo

I hope you are all aware by now that Wirral is the Borough of Culture for the Liverpool City Region in 2019. This is a relatively new initiative where the spotlight will be put on a different borough of the region each year highlighting existing and new cultural events. St Helens was the first borough in 2018 to lead the way and this year is Wirral's turn.

I am delighted by the amazing programme of events, many of which are new, that are planned for 2019 some of which are listed below - and how amazing it is that Tour of Britain cycle race have also chosen Wirral to be involved in their internationally renowned race.

2019 gives us a real opportunity to showcase Wirral to visitors and put this wonderful place on the map.

There will be many ways that those businesses and organisations involved in offering services and facilities to visitors can get involved and a meeting will be arranged in early March when more of the practical and operational details can be shared which I urge you to attend.

Lorna Tyson,
Chair of Wirral Visitor Economy Network

The first event is 'Animated Square' in Hamilton Square on Saturday 23rd March, for more information see here.
