The Wirral has a unique microclimate that lends itself to the production of quality ingredients and, as such, the area has attracted a number of award-winning producers and chefs over the years. Wirral’s food experts are passionate about sourcing natural ingredients from the local environment, resulting in fantastic places to eat and drink. You'll be amazed at the number and range of places to eat. We count ourselves very lucky to have such quality on our doorstep.
The Wheatsheaf (known as The Thatch by locals) is the oldest pub on the Wirral and retains many original features. It serves award-winning real ales and classic British cuisine in the pub and its converted barn restaurant, “The Cowshed”. In the village is The Seven Stars, a traditional pub with a good food offering. The Lawns restaurant specialises in fine dining food and, just down the road at The Red Fox gastro pub, you will find perfectly cooked international cuisine.
Within ten minutes drive there is The Devon Doorway, which will suit all tastes and appetites. Further into Heswall, meanwhile, Gustos Italian restaurant has a lively and sparkly atmosphere, whilst Paolos specialises in pizzas cooked fresh to order in their log fired pizza oven... Ideal for sharing!
Parkgate is an old seaside town and is home to one of our favourite restaurants No 1 Mostyn Square, which overlooks the marshlands, along with the very well known Chinese restaurant, Mr Chows. And for gastro pub fayre, positioned at the end of the parade, you'll find The Boathouse.
For something different, go to the beach of Lower Heswall and visit Sheldrakes restaurant. On a nice day you would think you were abroad! Or perhaps take a walk through the woods at Thurstaston and you'll be surprised to find Benty Farm Tearooms, full of excellent homemade cakes. A must for a tasty lunch is Claremont Farm, where you can purchase the local produce they use in their dishes from the farm shop, or try Gorge'Us in Bebington to sample their amazing flapjacks. For outstanding soups and fresh food, try Thyme Out Cafe at Heswall Hills (one of Donalds favourites - if you spot a pair wellingtons at the doorstep, he is in residence!).
There are plenty more places to choose from, so please feel free to enquire when booking or take a look at the "Other Places to Eat" page.
