Donald, one of the previous owners, spent a lot of time developing the garden and paths, planting thousands of bulbs every year. It’s not always easy as the squirrels can remove the bulbs as quickly as they are planted, whilst the herons have been known to attack the fish in our pond! Despite this, the gardens offer a truly relaxing sanctuary with numerous species of butterfly, birds and wildlife and can be viewed from the garden lounge, conservatory and all the bedrooms.
The garden is surrounded by paddocks that provide grazing for young calves or horses. Along the bottom edge of the paddocks runs the brook that forms the lower boundary of Mere Brook House. The brook runs into Raby Mere, which is situated around the corner. It is a popular attraction for young and old, who come to feed the ducks and to view the abundant wildlife in the surrounding area.
